Newly appointed national police commissioner Gen Riah Phiyega has reportedly halted interviews for major-generals to command crime intelligence operations in six provinces.
Maj-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed to The Star newspaper that the interviews had been cancelled on Phiyega's instruction.
"She requested that they will be put on hold until she understands crime intelligence, which is understandable," he was quoted as saying.
Five candidates had been flown to Pretoria for interviews on Tuesday, but were informed upon their arrival that the interviews had been cancelled.
The positions had been frozen until further notice, the daily reported.
