KFC apologises for racially clucked-up anthem

Chicken outlet KFC has apologised for an offencive version of the national anthem that was played in one of its shops in Cape Town.

"[We] have implemented immediate and decisive disciplinary action against two rogue employees involved," the company said in a statement on Friday.

The ANC in the Western Cape asked for an investigation into the matter on Thursday.

Capetonian Tariq Mellett was reportedly shocked when, while buying chicken at KFC, he heard a "vulgar, profane" version of the national anthem blasted over the music system.

"It sounded like parts of the national anthem, but I was surprised when the song started in Afrikaans with: Nkosi Sikelel'... Nkosi is 'n doos, Mandela is 'n fokken kaffir... and so on, at full blast," he said.

KFC said this was an "isolated incident".

"KFC condemns racism in the strongest possible terms and apologises unreservedly for the offence this has caused," the company said.
