The price of all grades of petrol will rise by 22 cents a litre on Wednesday next week, the energy department says.

The price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content would increase by 14.62 cents a litre, and that with a 0.005 percent sulphur content by 15.62 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would go up by 15 cents a litre.

The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin would increase by 20 cents a litre to reach R9.91.

The maximum retail price for LP Gas increases by 52 cents a kilogram to reach R19.64 at the coast and R21.46 in Gauteng.

The slate levy on petrol and diesel would decrease from 4.38 cents a litre to zero cents a litre.

Between June 29 and July 26, the average international prices for petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

However, the average rand/dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous month, at R8.2657 compared to R8.41189 previously.

The rand's strengthening against the dollar decreased the contribution to the basic price on petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin by 11.51 cents a litre, 12.17 cents a litre, and 11.96 cents a litre respectively.
