'Motlanthe will be president': Lamola

Sapa | 30 July, 2012 23:54
Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe. File photo.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will be ANC president, ANCYL deputy president Ronald Lamola said in Johannesburg on Monday.

"It is given comrades that the current deputy president of the ANC, comrade Kgalema, will one day become the president of the ANC," Lamola said.

"It will be a generational error if he does not become the president. We will be rewriting the history of the African National Congress."

Lamola was addressing the ANC Youth League's Dr Mxolisi Majombozi branch at the University of the Witwatersrand.

He was reporting back on the league's policy conference held in June, the league's role, and reflecting on former president Nelson Mandela's contribution to the struggle.

He said it was tradition in the mother body for the ANC's deputy president to take over from the president.

"What we are going to do when this debate is opened towards Mangaung, we are going to debate when he must become the president," Lamola said to a cheering crowd. He was referring to the ANC's elective conference, to be held in Mangaung in December.

"That he will be president is given."

Before Lamola spoke, attendees chanted "let Kgalema rule".

Whatever you receive out of the mouth of an anc connected, Zuma, Motlanthe or whoever: DO NOT BELIEVE.
For your attention some info about the Donen report viz Motlanthe, Sexwale, Madjali and last but not least: Mac Maharaj who is also sitting on the hot coals.
Read at the website of m&g about the Donen report and the not clearing from Matlanthe.

This is what happens when you have no discipline for the puppies - they start thinking that they are the alpha dog.

If Lamola doesn't understand the difference between 'debating' and 'dictating' then he is no better than Malema was

He's already on the same path as Malema, toting how the ANCYL has "won" the nationalization debate and how he believes legalized theft is apparently the way to go.

After reading their position on Pilgrim's Rest, I was pleasantly surprised by what was said but the truth is that nothing has changed. They still react on their gut feelings rather than any notion of debate, thought or foresight.

You obviously do not understand the role of the ANC Youth League. The ANC Youth League is a kingmaker in the ANC and they know that their positions are going to prevail in Mangaung. The ANC Youth League is better positioned than any structure of the ANC to lobby branches. These days you just have to look at Jacob Zuma's face, you will see that the man is stressed and suddenly aged. If Jacob Zuma is smart he would opt out of this contest and retire peacefully to Nkandla. But that is expecting too much. He will go for it being urged by desperate supporters like Blade Nzimande, Malusi Gigaba and others but he is going to fall flat on his face. The leadership "debate" has been shut down by Jacob Zuma and Gwede Mantashe, whose own supporters are going around dictating to branches but it is just not working. Their fate certaily awaits them in Mangaung and it will be up to the ANC to decide what happens to them after Mangaung, considering that they have destabilised the ANC for factionalist objectives. I just hope factionalism will be stamped out after Mangaung. However factionalism should never be confused with internal debate about leadership. Factionalism is when ANC resources are used to advance the interests of a segment of the leadership rather those of the entire ANC.

Seems like your understanding of the word 'debate' is as flimsy as your president's.

If the ANCYL want to run the country then they must stand for elections, on their own, and get a mandate from the voting public to do so. Until that time, they should (along with the SACP and Cosatu) just stick to what they are mandated to do - represent the concerns of their paid members - and leave grown up stuff to the grown ups

Let them continue making enemies. It's hard to not feel compulsion towards anger while they do, but it's good - they'll eventually defeat themselves. Anybody who's primary goal it is to fight, will end up fighting with and falling on the wrong side of any leader eventually.

So carry on shooting your mouth off, Lamola. I love watching people like you hang themselves with their own arrogance. Pride comes before a fall - always.

Seems like a replay of what happened five years ago. Let's hope that the idiotic bunch of cadres get it right this time.

Of course if they'd listened to me five years ago, we wouldn't have a rapist criminal thug for a president today.

Mothlanthe is no different to Zuma in any significant way. Zuma had his mates stealing for him and this one's cherry was doing the job.

Same pond,same slime, same DNA

Comrade Lamola must have smoked weed when he articulated that statement! Or maybe he sniffed dope for the fist time in his life! Comrade Kgali is a weakling to be the President. We do not want to be led by people who will let the small children do as they pleases with the precious future of our country!

I actually like Motlanthe. It's interesting, though, that I feel this compulsion to dislike him because the ANCYL also like him. I suspect that they just want to spite Zuma, much like they want to spite white people. Their whole agenda is driven by hatred and spite. Let them continue, you can only make so many enemies before they surround and destroy you (case in point, Julius Malema).

Whether La-Mola Jackson understands the difference between debating and dictating, is a moot point.....

What the thugs of the Little League do believe, is to form gangs of marauder youngsters armed with AK-47 and Ray-Ban glasses invading private property and ransacking in the name of "restitution and reconciliation"....Naturally, the booty will go shared between Malema and other bullies, AND, whoever is fueling their renovated arrogance and stupidity. Juju and sweetheart, who probably are enjoying the Olympic Games and using the occasion to take money out of the country, feel like a restored, recycled condom............
