Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi has been readmitted to hospital, the department of correctional services said on Thursday.

Deputy chief commissioner James Smalberger said Selebi was admitted on Tuesday and had been in hospital ever since.

He said he could not comment on which hospital Selebi had been admitted to, or comment on his condition.

On Monday, Steve Biko Academic Hospital CEO Ernest Kenoshi said Selebi was no longer a patient there and asked last week to be transferred to Jakaranda Hospital in Pretoria.

Jakaranda Hospital spokeswoman Adri Opperman declined to comment. She said the hospital had a policy of not commenting about their patients.

Selebi was granted medical parole two weeks ago and was placed under house arrest. He was convicted of corruption in 2010 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
