Winter going out with a brrr

South Africans should not pack away their winter wardrobes just yet, because bitterly cold conditions are expected over large parts of the country this week, the SA Weather Service says.
A cold front struck on Monday, which would mean "the whole country will be chilly" on Tuesday, forecaster Vanetia Phakula said.
It would be very cold over the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, the Free State, and southern parts of the North West.
"Very cold" conditions were defined as maximum temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius or below.
The Western Cape, Eastern Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal had a high probability of rainfall. Snow was predicted over parts of these provinces and the southern Free State. The rest of the Free State had a small chance of light snowfall.
Isolated rain and thundershowers were possible over the Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
Rainfall predicted for Johannesburg overnight had failed to materialise by Monday morning, and the chances were "slim" that the dry winter spell would be broken in southern Gauteng this week.
Phakula said the patterns of cold and wet weather over the country were not unusual, as there was normally a cold snap "before saying goodbye to winter".
