The Western Cape will see more heavy rain at the weekend, the provincial government said on Wednesday.

Spokesman Peter Pullen said the SA Weather Service had warned of rain in parts of Cape Town, the winelands, and Overberg district on Saturday.

Provincial disaster management centre head Colin Deiner said officials were on standby for the next few days and ready to help.

Residents were advised to steer clear of flooded roads and use alternative routes. Hiking and swimming were not recommended.

Flooding in the Langeberg and winelands region on Tuesday resulted in a number of road and bridge closures.

Some roads remained closed on Wednesday. In the Cape Winelands, the R62 between Barrydale and Ashton, as well as Van der Merwe and Voortrekker roads, were closed.

In the Eden district, the Swartberg Pass, Mount Hope gravel road and Kleinefontein Road were closed to traffic.

Pullen said the Klawervlei Primary School in Beaufort West was closed on Monday and pupils evacuated due to heavy flooding.

About 200 people in the Cogmanskloof area and 300 people in Ashbury were housed in community halls and given food and blankets.
