Western Cape judge president John Hlophe received a fax supposedly from acting judge Patrick Maqubela's "call girl" saying he died while having sex, according to a report on Tuesday.
The Star newspaper reported that the State believed the fax was not sent by a prostitute but from Maqubela's wife, Thandi.
She is on trial with co-accused Vela Mabena in the Cape Town Labour Court for her husband's alleged murder.
The newspaper reported that a former employee at Easi-com Internet cafe in Sunnyside in Pretoria, Patrick Budeli, testified that the fax was sent from their shop at 4.15pm on November 6, 2009.
However, Budeli could not remember who the customer was who requested the fax to be sent.
According to The Star, in the first four paragraphs of the document, typed in upper-case letters, the writer introduces herself as Maqubela's "regular call girl".
"He died while we were having sex. It is as simple as all that," it read.
"Why government [sic] wasting [sic] so much money investigating a 'sex worker' judge who is all of a sudden a 'saint'?
The fax added: "As his regular call girl he maintained me. I know all [sic] his death. I had access to his houses Cape Town, JHB [sic] you name it."
The acting judge was allegedly suffocated on June 5, 2009.
