All provinces are ready for the 2012 matric examinations, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Thursday.

"We are confident that the 2012 exams will proceed as smoothly as it has been in past few years. We cannot foresee any major discrepancies," she told reporters in Pretoria.

All nine provinces had sent reports confirming readiness. The exams start on Monday.

A total of 527 335 full-time pupils and 120 352 part-time candidates would write the exams, and 264 question papers had been moderated and approved by the quality assurer, Umalusi.
