A 14-year-old girl has been strangled by another teenaged girl in Kagiso on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

The girls, both 14, started arguing while playing in a sports complex on Tuesday, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.

One of them grabbed the other by the throat "until she was dead".

The alleged killer was arrested and released into the custody of her parents. She would be taken to a probation officer for counselling on Thursday. She would later be charged with murder.
