Khayelitsha's first B&B owner killed

The murder of Khayelitsha's first bed-and-breakfast owner is a great loss to the industry, a Western Cape official said on Friday.

"Nobantu ‘Vicky’ Ntozini will be deeply missed as a pioneer of township tourism, a respected business-woman, and a philanthropist and stalwart in the community," Western Cape MP Eugene von Brandis said.

He said Ntozini, 39, opened Vicky’s B&B in Site C, Khayelitsha, Cape Town in 1998.

"I ask the community of Khayelitsha to preserve the legacy of a great woman and to follow the example of empowerment she taught us."

Ntozini was stabbed to death in the early hours of Wednesday morning on Kiyane Street, Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

He said Ntozini was allegedly stabbed by her 58-year-old husband at their home.

"According to a witness, the victim and the suspect were fighting when the suspect took a knife and fatally stabbed the victim, and afterwards the suspect stabbed himself."

The husband was being treated in hospital. Van Wyk said no one had been arrested for the murder.

Von Brandis said Ntozini's death highlighted the importance of 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.

"I trust justice will prevail in this incident; however it remains of little comfort to a distraught family," he said.
