A police captain who allegedly took part - in full uniform - in a business robbery in Sunnyside has been arrested, police said on Friday.

Police spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane said that the cop, aged 56, was arrested along with two others, after a group of five people robbed a shop in the Pretoria suburb.

"Apparently he was in uniform," said Tsinyane.

She said the police captain will appear in court soon on charges of business robbery.

Police are still searching for the two other robbers who managed to escape.
