Police make 168 arrests in Soweto in weekend operation

A total of 168 people were arrested across Soweto for various crimes during the weekend, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

They were charged for crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, illegal sale of alcohol to drunk driving and possession of stolen motor vehicles.

"This was part of a weekend operation that started on Friday and ended today [Sunday]," said police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

The suspects were expected to appear at various courts on Monday.
