A Soweto man was arrested for allegedly raping his own daughter in Jabulani, Gauteng police said.

The crime was allegedly committed in 2003. The teenager was eight-years-old at the time, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

Makhubele said the youth, now 17, reported the matter to police on Wednesday. She was taken to a doctor.

"The results are in the docket and will be presented before the magistrate," he said.

The crime was allegedly committed when the mother was out of province at the time. On her return she was told about the incident but nothing was done, said Makhubele.

Other family members knew about the matter and they kept quiet.

"Those who kept quiet about this crime might be charged for defeating the ends of justice," he said.

The man will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday.
