A Cape Town skateboarder filmed hurtling down a steep main road is to be prosecuted for reckless and negligent road behaviour, it was reported on Thursday.
Decio Lourenco, 24, was recently filmed skating down the busy Kloof Nek road in Tamboerskloof, setting off the 60km/h camera with a recorded speed of 100km/h.
Safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith told the Cape Times Lourenco would not be given the option of a fine.
"The case will be opened with the police and we will ask the director of public prosecutions to prosecute."
By Wednesday, a video of the skateboarding act, titled "Spoofing the Cam-Kloof Nek" had been viewed more than 160 000 times on video sharing site Youtube.
Smith said "there is no way" the city would be unbanning skating on public roads.
The bylaw stipulates that skating is only allowed on public roads if the road has specifically been designated for that purpose.
Marco Morgan of the National Skaters Collective told the newspaper there were no facilities for longboarders.
"It is one of the fastest growing sports. If we could get some agreement with the city for road closures at certain times then we wouldn't have any interference with traffic."
