A man has been jailed for life by the Ngwelezane Regional Court for raping his niece, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

He was sentenced to two life terms, which would run concurrently, during an appearance on Friday, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

"We can't disclose the name, because he is related to the victim," Zwane said.

The 23-year-old man raped his niece in February 2011 in Mthunzini, near Umlazi. She was 15 at the time.

He followed the girl and raped her when she went into bushes to relieve herself, and raped her again the next day, he said.

The girl told her mother what had happened and the man was arrested.
