A 27-year-old woman was raped in Moria, Mankweng, allegedly by a fellow church member, Limpopo police said on Monday.

"It is alleged that the victim had gone to fetch her cellphone from the suspect," police spokesman Constable Moses Molepo said.

"She allegedly took the cellphone to the suspect's house to be charged."

When she entered the house he allegedly throttled and raped her.

The rape took place on Sunday morning around 2 am. She was taken to Mankweng hospital, where doctors confirmed the rape.

The 35-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
