Residents in Randfontein on the West Rand were protesting and placing rocks on a road on Thursday morning, Johannesburg metro police said.

"They have placed rocks along the Randfontein Road, blocking the way through. They are from nearby RDP houses and are protesting over the lack of water in their area," said spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He advised motorists to use the Ontdekkers Road instead of the Randfontein Road.
