Cyclist attackers appear in court

Two cyclists appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with the attack on a teenager on Sunday.

Faizel Hendricks, 39, and Mogammed Solomon, 29, were arrested at Sea Point Police station on Tuesday on charges common assault and malicious damage to property.

The case was postponed to May.

Police spokesman, Captain FC van Wyk, said on Wednesday morning the men were released on R500 and warned to appear in court.

He said a  third suspect is yet to be arrested.

They are members of the Muhammadeyah Cycling Club. A statement issued by the club revealed that the men had been suspended and a disciplinary hearing is being conducted.

A clip of the incident was posted on Facebook by Symon Scott. Ibrahim Waggie,19, double parked on a road in Sea Point while fellow volunteers collected litter during a charity sports event. In the video cyclists are seen launching blows at Waggie in the driver's seat.

"The club is arranging a workshop with all its members to discuss the incident as well as to talk about preventative measures in avoiding conduct that will place the club in disrepute," the statement read.
