Bus drivers operating feeder buses to the Gautrain embarked on an unprotected strike in Johannesburg, Gautrain operating company Bombela, said on Friday morning.

"I do not have any details yet as to why they are on strike, which started a couple of hours ago," said Bombela spokesman Errol Braithwaite.

"This is a complete wildcat strike, the company has not received a strike notification from the workers."

Buses in Pretoria were operating on Friday.

Braithwaite said negotiations with the drivers were underway.
