Attempted murder charges were withdrawn against a Free State pharmacist who allegedly shot her husband after mistaking him for an intruder.

Karen Fouche was arrested on Saturday night after she allegedly shot her husband Frik on their farm Waterval outside Ficksburg, Beeld reported.

The matter was withdrawn on Wednesday after Fouche appeared in the Ficksburg Magistrate's Court.

Frik Fouche was shot after he apparently used a blowtorch to open the security gate of their house because he could not find his keys.

Jonker Botha, for Karen Fouche, said she should have never been arrested because a charge was never laid against her.

"The family will sort it out themselves. The luck is that the man was not seriously injured," Botha was quoted as saying.

Her eldest son, Frikkie, posted on his social media website Facebook that the bullets went straight through his father but that no organs or veins were injured, Beeld reported.
