The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) on Monday said an advertisement for traffic officer positions was bogus.

"The RTMC this afternoon discovered with great shock and disappointment, a bogus advertisement calling upon innocent and helpless South Africans to apply for traffic officer positions," spokeswoman Thato Mosena said.

The RTMC management wanted to put on record that the advertised posts bearing their name did not "originate from us".

She asked South Africans to ignore the advertisement and its content.

The RTMC would investigate and get to the bottom of the "insensitive behaviour" and the culprits would be brought to book, she said.

"We further advise the victims of this unfortunate and malicious incident to report the matter to the nearest police station," said Mosena.
