An ex-policeman was arrested in Soweto, Johannesburg, on Friday morning for allegedly renting out police uniforms to criminals, police said.

"We found police uniforms, blue lights, reflectors, name tags... these were used to commit crimes," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

"The man was renting these things to criminals."

The 35-year-old was arrested after a raid on a house in Moletsane, Soweto.

"It is understood that he is a former policeman.

"It seems that after the criminals have done their jobs they would share their loot with him," said Makhubela.

A stolen Audi A4 was found on the scene.

The man, who was also suspected to have been involved in some of the crimes himself, would appear in court soon.
