The Ekurhuleni municipality on Sunday said it had failed to meet its own deadline to restore power in the Boksburg area.

"It became clear in the early hours of this morning that the 9am deadline to restore power would not be met," said municipality spokesman Themba Gadebe.

He said some of the work that needed to be done to restore the electricity could not be immediately executed because of safety risks.

Parkrand, Sunward Park, Freeway Park and parts of Boksburg east and the CBD have been without electricity since 7am on Saturday.

Gadebe said the power outage was as a result of an explosion of the incoming circuit breaker from Eskom to Ekurhuleni.

He called for patience from affected residents and said the municipality was doing all it could to restore the power.

"Engineers worked through the night and will continue to work without fail until power is fully restored," he said.
