Two dogs were killed and two people had to be taken to hospital after bees went on the attack at Husky Rescue near Lanseria.

Committee member Ian Jones said he had to don protective clothing on Sunday morning so that he could rescue the 25 Husky dogs that were being attacked. He had to carry the dogs two-by-two out of the yard and to safety.

People at the Husky Rescue had to take refuge in a house or in their cars.

Jones said the swarm occurred after strong winds knocked a hive out of a tree.

He arrived an hour after the swarm began and had to borrow protective clothing from his son who is a paramedic, so as to begin moving the dogs to safety.

One of the dogs was already dead. Another, said Jones, died later.

A helper at Husky Rescue jumped in the pool, but was stung when she tried to get out. Both people taken to hospital were later discharged.
