A cash in transit heist took place outside Rosebank's Gautrain station at about 9:10 this morning.

Eight suspects in two BMWs followed a Nissan unmarked bakkie that was thought to be leaving a bank in the Rosebank area.  Men shot three times at the white bakkie but the driver and passenger were not injured as the vehicle had bullet-proof glass.

The robbers had forced a man out the vehicle and made him open the back to hand over one bag of money. The passenger in the vehicle said to his colleagues who came to the scene that the criminals "wanted to kill" him.

The unmarked van was transporting money for G4S security.

The suspects escaped with an undisclosed amount of money and one of the occupants' firearms.

Paramedics have arrived to assess the driver and passenger of the vehicle who are shaken.

Police are on the scene.
