Seven hotels in Cape Town dominate the top ten list of Best Hotels in Africa, as voted by the travel magazine's readers

The Best Hotels in Africa are mostly in Cape Town, say world travellers in a survey by the prestigious Conde Nast magazine.

The One&Only in Cape Town won top spot, followed by Ellerman House, the Mount Nelson Hotel, Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, and Cape Cadogan Hotel. Also making the list were the Cape Grace and Table Bay Hotel.

The magazine described the One&Only, near the buzzing V&A Waterfront,  as a "glamorous newcomer (that) makes the other five-star harbour hotels seem buttoned-down".

While criticising service levels as "short of being seamless", the hotel wins praise for its luxurious accommodations, and good restaurants offering meals of locally sourced ingredients.

Ellerman House, on the slopes of Lion's Head, "houses a fabulous private modern art collection in elegantly furnished rooms and airy public spaces", the magazine says.

The only venues outside of Cape Town in the top ten are: Gibb's Farm in Ngorongoro, Tanzania (6), the Saxon Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg (7) and the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Livingstone, Zambia (8).
