The Pietermaritzburg High Court cleared four police officers and a civilian of corruption charges.

Judge Rashid Vahed cleared former director of the Mountain Rise police station in Pietermaritzburg Brigadier Hariram Badul, three of his staff members, Lt-Col Yunus Khan, Captain Suresh Naraindath, and Constable Patrick Nkabini, and businessman Sigamoney Pillay of 346 counts.

Badul has gone intro retirement.

Vahed did not grant indemnity to three witnesses who were charged but turned State witnesses. They would have been granted indemnity from prosecution if their evidence was considered beyond criticism.

The evidence ran into 4086 pages. The charges included racketeering, corruption and theft.

The group may decide to launch malicious prosecution charges.
