Man found on M2 highway with gunshot wound to the head

A man was found shot dead next to his car on the M2 highway near Denver, south of Johannesburg, on Thursday, metro police said.

"It is not yet clear what happened, but apparently it looked like his vehicle broke down and he got out... and was probably confronted by people along the M2 highway," spokeswoman Inspector Edna Mamonyane said.

A metro police patrol saw the car, with its bonnet open. The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police were investigating a murder case.
