A woman was arrested for allegedly shooting at her married boyfriend in Dobsonville, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the woman, 30, allegedly attempted to shoot her boyfriend on Wednesday night, after the two argued about him visiting his wife for Christmas.

"The man wanted to go to his wife for Christmas. The girlfriend refused and this resulted in an argument. The man packed his bag. The girlfriend blocked him, pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at him but missed."

The man ran to the police and the woman was arrested.

Makhubela said the woman was found in possession of a firearm which did not belong to her.

"It was established the gun belongs to her friend who is a police officer."

He said the woman was also charged with theft of a firearm, as she allegedly took her friend's firearm without her consent.

She would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
