Justice Minister Michael Masutha has not been informed about the parole board's recommendation to grant Clive Derby-Lewis medical parole, his spokesman said on Tuesday.
Masutha would announce his decision regarding Clive Derby-Lewis, Ferdi Barnard, and Eugene de Kock, on Friday, Mthunzi Mhaga said.
"The minister has received no official communication from the medical parole advisory board about their recommendations.
"We are therefore unable to comment on what is reported to be their recommendations, save to state that any recommendations of the board are not binding on the minister."
Derby-Lewis's wife, Gaye, earlier said the medical parole board had recommended that he be released.
"I do not know how to feel. It has happened four times before and each time it was blocked by the government. I do not know if the minister is going to release him," she said.
Derby-Lewis was jailed for his role in the murder, on April 10, 1993, of SA Communist Party general secretary Chris Hani.
