Police in Mpumalanga are searching for a rapist who dressed like a woman and attacked a farmer in the notorious Pienaar township outside Mbombela.

Pienaar police spokeswoman Lieutenant Jabu Ndubane said the unknown man raped a 51-year-old woman on Friday.

"According to the victim, she was busy working in her vegetable field not very far from a bushy area when she was approached by a man wearing a long skirt. She reported that the man complained of thirst and asked to be shown the nearest river so he could have some water,” said Ndubane.

Ndubane said while the complainant was still trying to make sense of the request, the man produced and knife and forced her to go to the river with him.

"He raped her near the river and afterwards offered her water to wash herself. After washing herself he raped her again and took her cellphone and ran on foot," she said.

No one has yet been arrested but police have warned residents in the Pienaar area to be on a lookout for any man impersonating a woman.

"We hope to make an arrest very soon," said Ndubane. - African Eye News Service
