The Hillsong Church has opened its sixth campus in South Africa - this time in Braamfontein.

“We are excited to join forces with a host of incredible churches already established here, to reach this city with the hopeful message of the gospel,” said lead pastor of Hillsong South Africa, Phil Dooley, according to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

“We believe in the influence of Jo'burg on a nation like South Africa and that the church can play a significant role in helping to rebuild our nation.”

The new is located near the  University of Witwatersrand and will be focusing on attracting young worshippers.

"They are the future leaders of this country and we want to do all we can to help and encourage them,” Dooley said.

The Australian church was originally formed in 1983 when Frank Houston's Sydney Christian Life Centre at Waterloo merged with his son's Hills Christian Life Centre in Baulkham Hills.

Frank Houston resigned from the church in 2000, after confessing to sexually abusing a seven year-old boy.

The church also has a controversial history regarding its finances in Australia, prompting The Chaser's War on Everything to release a parody song about the church.
