The Eastern Cape's acting secretary of Contralesa (The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa)‚ Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana‚ was robbed of cellphones and money on the streets of Durban. Nonkonyana‚ who is head of AmaBhala clan in Flagstaff‚ was accosted by five men on the corner of Point Road and Smith Street in Durban on Wednesday afternoon.“All three my cellular phones and money have been stolen by these thugs. They took me by surprise. As I was walking to an eatery‚ they attacked me from behind‚ strangled me and tripped me. They pinned me and took everything from me‚” said Nonkonyana. The former South African Football Association (Safa) vice-president was visiting his wife at a Durban hospital and had only gone out to buy something to eat.“Surprising is the lack of people to assist. As I was being robbed‚ there were people who chose to be bystanders and did nothing to stop them as I was being robbed‚” said Nonkonyana. The matter has been reported to the Point Road police station for investigation. The police station yesterday confirmed that a case of robbery has been opened. No suspects have been arrested.-- RDM News Wire..
