R7-million drug bust at Ramsgate on KZN South Coast

Ten people were arrested this morning after they were found with heroin to the street value of more than seven million rand‚ police say. The joint operation by Durban Hawks and National Intervention Unit members made the bust at a house in Ramsgate‚ near Margate.The arrested suspects aged between 22 and 29 will appear in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court later today on a charge of dealing in drugs. “After months of intense investigation by the Hawks‚ they uncovered a drug syndicate operating in a plush Ramsgate suburb in Margate.During the investigation it was discovered that it was a Durban based syndicate which had moved to South Coast. Investigations were completed and an intelligence driven operation was conducted‚” the SAPS said in a statement.At about 8am this morning‚ the Hawks assisted by the National Intervention Unit armed with the search warrant raided the house and recovered about 120,000 readily packed straws of heroin and eight kilograms of unpacked heroin.“The house was found to be a processing and packaging clandestine laboratory.”..
