Eskom should be able to meet weekend demand

Despite a midweek power demand deficit causing load-shedding to be implemented on Wednesday and Thursday‚ there is a good chance of an outage-free weekend. Just after bragging about its ability to keep the lights on for much of the past week‚ Eskom on Wednesday had to resort to stage 2 load-shedding. It started Thursday by warning the public of stage 1 cuts until 10pm.While Thursday’s predicted demand outstrips power capacity by less than 1000MW‚ necessitating the planned outages‚ the capacity available for Friday and the weekend is‚ according to Eskom‚ well above what is expected to be needed.Eskom said‚ in its Bi-weekly System Status Update‚ that Friday evening’s peak demand is 32933MW while demand is forecast 30 908 MW; while Saturday will see 33764MW available to meet a predicted need of 30267MW; and on Sunday‚ the power utility believes it will be more that 4000MW in the black...
