Hunt on for suspect who fled scene of M1 shootout

Paramedics were forced to take cover next to the M1 highway on Wednesday morning when security guards and an armed robber exchanged gunfire. The man escaped‚ but police officers were able to apprehend his accomplice and seize an AK47 rifle with ammunition‚ and a camera that contained photographs of a number of houses.The incident happened just after 11am when‚ witnesses said‚ police in an undercover vehicle attempted to stop a red VW Polo that they considered suspicious.The occupants of the Polo‚ in trying to make a getaway‚ reversed into the back of the police vehicle.The two suspects then opened fire on the police.
