No sailor's hats or stripes please: The fashion theme for this year’s premier horse racing event‚ the Durban July‚ is “The Captain’s Table” – ripe for tacky interpretations‚ which organisers hope to avoid by roping in designers to guide punters. Sibu Msimang suggests the key for ladies looking race day ready is‚ “choosing an outfit that suits your body. If you want to wear a dress like Beyoncé did at the Met Gala please make sure you have the body for it!”Haroun Hansrot recommends a budget conscious approach by selecting an outfit that has two or three separate parts and not just one overall piece. “This way you can mix and match pieces and invest in one piece that you can use again at another event instead of one dress that you only wear once‚” he says. “Also‚ go through your cupboard for accessories to add glam to your ensemble‚ like a simple piece of jewellery.”If you do have the cash to splash out‚ Hansrot's advice is to conceptualise the whole outfit from head to toe‚ and not just focus on the garments.“Being invited to dine at the Captain's Table is a huge honour and your chance to really dress to impress‚” says Hansrot.“Remember to look at yourself from top to bottom. Get a manicure‚ hire a makeup artist and pick some seriously glamorous but comfortable shoes.”Whatever your budget‚ Msimang points out that accessorising is a must.“The Vodacom Durban July is a formal occasion so you need a hat and maybe even some gloves‚” says Msimang. “Steer clear of clashing and ensure your bag matches your hat‚ which matches your shoes.”When choosing headwear‚ Msimang suggests making sure your hat is the correct height and shape and complements your outfit.“Pick your outfit first and then your headwear and give yourself plenty of time to put the whole thing together.”The 2015 Vodacom Durban July takes place at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 4 July.-RDM News Wire..
