Quick response by police leads to the rescue of two victims‚ arrest of three suspects

The K9 Unit assisted by members of the Combat Action Team (CAT) in Pietermaritzburg arrested three suspects allegedly involved in a kidnapping and house robbery in the Bishopstowe area. On Saturday morning‚ June 20 at about 1.00am‚ a woman and her boyfriend were in their house in the Maqonqo area‚ Bishopstowe when they were approached by four suspects. It is alleged that they were assaulted and forced into their own white Isuzu bakkie. The suspects then fled the scene with the two victims‚ as well as with household items such as clothing‚ cash‚ a cell phone and personal documents.Another family member who was in another room in the house heard the commotion and contacted the police.Details of the stolen vehicle were immediately circulated and the vehicle was spotted by members of the K9 Unit and CAT at the Northdale Mall.The two victims were rescued and three suspects arrested. All stolen goods were also recovered.A fourth suspect managed to escape on foot and is still at large.Major Thulani Zwane of the KwaZulu-Natal Media Centre Corporate Communication of the South African Police Service said on Monday that cases of house robbery‚ kidnapping as well as theft of a motor vehicle were opened at the Bishopstowe police station for further investigation.KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended members of the K9 Unit and CAT for reacting so swiftly after the initial call.“We will investigate to establish if the arrested suspects are not wanted for other crimes in the province‚” she said.The suspects aged between 22 and 30 are to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on June 22 on charges of house robbery‚ kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle...
