Woman gives birth in Sterkfontein caves

The Taung child now has a competitor - a woman gave birth deep inside the Sterkfontein Caves on Friday afternoon. The pregnant woman was visiting the caves‚ situated near Krugersdorp in the west of Johannesburg‚ when she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen and went into labour‚ according to a statement by ER24.Paramedics were dispatched to the scene but on their arrival they found “that a beautiful baby girl had been born”‚ said ER24. A first aid expert that works on site had assisted with the birth.The Sterkfontein Caves are world renowned and of special interest to paleo-anthropologists. It was here that scientists discovered such fossils as Mrs Ples and Little Foot‚ an near complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than three million years.
