Putco cancels bus services in three major municipalities

Putco Bus Services has indicated to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport its intention to cease operations in Tshwane‚ Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng municipalities with effect from Tuesday‚ the department said on Monday. It added that the move had the potential to leave many commuters and residents stranded with no transport operations to get to work or schools.However‚ it assured affected commuters that Autopax‚ a subsidiary of PRASA‚ would step in to replace Putco on all the subsidised routes within the areas.Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport‚ Dr Ismail Vadi‚ announced during his budget vote speech that the department intended renegotiating subsidised contracts with bus companies in Gauteng and that a joint working group has been constituted representing various municipalities‚ bus companies and the department.-RDM News Wire..
