How much is the life of a 64-year-old man worth in Soweto?

According to Sowetourban, Bongani Mazibuko claims that the staff at the  Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Jabulani, Soweto refused to treat his 64-year-old father Bheki, because he didn't have the R20 admission fee.

Mazibuko claims he only had R15 on him, and by the time he managed to get the extra five two hours later his father had already died.

They allegedly said "they would not touch him until he paid the fee."

The DA's  Gauteng Health Shadow MEC Jack Bloom has expressed outrage at the report.

“No patient should ever be turned away for lack of funds.

“We need to know the truth about this incident and firm assurance that prompt treatment of emergency patients is never delayed for any avoidable reason,” said Bloom.
