A truck driver crashed into an accident scene this weekend, killing a tow truck operator, only to then steal an ambulance and crash into a Berea restaurant.

According to the Berea Mail the Rescue Care ambulance was just leaving the scene of the initial accident, which caused no injuries, when the medics saw a truck plow into the scene.

The ambulance ran back to the scene and found a critically injured breakdown specialist down the embankment.

“All efforts were tried to try save the breakdown operator however he had suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene,” said Rescue Care operations director, Garrith Jamieson.

Meanwhile as the ambulance operators were trying to save the man's life, the man who was driving the truck decided to steal their ambulance and flee.

He crashed the ambulance into a restaurant at the corner of Umbilo Road and Deodar Avenue, which is also close to the local police station making it quite convenient for the cops.

The driver was also treated for his injuries.
