University to launch Enuf-is-Enuf gender violence campaign

The University of South Africa (Unisa) and Higher Education South Africa (Hesa) are saying Enuf-is-Enuf. That’s the name of a campaign they will be launching on Wednesday to “encourage discussion and educate staff‚ students‚ partners and other attendees about the scourge of gender-based violence”.“Unisa is particularly proud to partner with Hesa in a campaign of this nature‚ particularly because it is a transformative programme that promises to advance women empowerment‚ gender equity and equality in terms of access to opportunities‚ resources and outcomes’ said the university’s principal and vice-chancellor‚ Professor Mandla Makhanya.An Unisa statement on Monday said: “It also resonates fully with the Hesa board’s 2014 resolution to support a nationally driven campaign against gender-based violence in our communities and at institutions of higher learning.”Speakers at the launch will include the Commission for Gender Equality’s Keketso Maema‚ Sonke Gender Justice’s Mbuyiselo Botha‚ the People Opposing Women Abuse’s Sakina Mohamed and “three Unisa student leaders‚ who will also talk on gender-based violence from the perspective of the student community”...
