The mother of the late former Metro FM DJ Eddie Zondi was evicted out of her Naturena house, south of Johannesburg, last week after failing to keep up with her bond repayments.

Sunday Sun reported that it had learnt the bank has repossessed and sold the house for R400,000 on Monday.

“Gogo Thoko has been staying at this house for such a long time and it’s sad that she had to leave the house for not paying the bond,” said one of the concerned neighbours who spoke to the Sunday tabloid on condition of anonymity.

“Gogo Thoko was told to leave. Eddie bought her this house and he was paying the bond, but after he passed on, it became difficult for Gogo to pay as she’s a pensioner.

Zondi died in June last year.

According to the report, community leaders made contact with Zondi’s former employer, the SABC’s acting COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng in a bid to save the situation.

Motsoeneng confirmed to the paper he is prepared to meet with the community leaders “so that we can discuss the matter affecting the mother of the late Eddie.”

Gogo Thokozile refused to comment on the issue.
