Premier to get report on Roodepoort Primary School

Premier David Makhura will on Friday take delivery of the report of a mediation committee appointed to make suggestions on the future of Roodepoort Primary School. The school's routine has for months been disrupted by violent protests over the appointment of its principal‚ Nomathemba Molefe‚ and her deputies.The protests are believed to be racially motivated as the school is in the predominantly coloured area of Davidsonville‚ and some parents have been reported as saying they did not want a black woman in charge.Last month‚ following extensive consultation with Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and a visit by Makhura‚ a decision was taken to intervene urgently by temporarily closing Roodepoort Primary and to move pupils and teachers to Lufhereng Primary School‚ it added.The premier also announced that a task team would be appointed to find a lasting solution to the issues being raised by the community.“The mediation committee was appointed by the Gauteng provincial government to mediate and provide recommendations to normalise the situation at the school‚” Makhura’s office said in a statement.Last month‚ the department of education said an analysis of work done had revealed the work that pupils were doing now was supposed to have been completed in May...
