Police divers combed the bottoms of two KwaZulu-Natal rivers at the weekend looking for the bodies of two victims who had drowned, one of them just a teenager.

In the first incident on Saturday, Police Search and Rescue Unit divers from Durban and Pietermaritzburg rushed to Inanda Dam where a 17-year-old boy had gone missing.

It is understood the teen was seen flailing around desperately before disappearing beneath the surface.

Divers found the teen’s body on the dam floor, about 8m from the water’s edge, within minutes of wading in.

In another incident on Sunday, a 50-year-old man drowned in the Illovo River near the Amanzimtoti golf course.

It is understood he had been collecting water to wash his clothes when he fell into the river.

He was found floating face down in the slow moving current, clad only in a T-shirt and his underwear.
