Nico Henning to be tried for wife's murder next year

The trial of wealthy Pretoria businessman Nico Henning‚ who is accused of masterminding his wife’s murder‚ has been postponed to next year. Henning made a brief appearance in the Pretoria High Court on Monday and his case was postponed to June 6 2016 by agreement between the state and defence. The postponement is to allow the state to finalise its investigation and the defence to prepare for the case.Henning‚ who is out on bail of R10-million‚ is accused of ordering a hit on his estranged wife‚ which the state believes was motivated by a looming custody battle over the couple’s young son.Chanelle‚ 26‚ was gunned down by two men on a motorbike shortly after dropping the boy off at his nursery school in the Pretoria suburb of Faerie Glen in November 2011.Her husband was implicated in the murder by a friend‚ former police officer Andre Gouws‚ one of four men already convicted for their role in the hit.Gouws and former Nigerian Olympic athlete Ambrose Monye are serving life sentences for the murder‚ but have been granted leave to appeal.Another ex-policeman‚ Gerhardus du Plessis‚ and his friend Willem Pieterse were also jailed for the killing...
