A police constable is on the run after he allegedly raped and stabbed his wife.

He forced her legs open to see if she had cheated on him and then stabbed her in the breast and arms, said Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Grace Langa.

This happened at the couple's house in Mabopane on Sunday.

"It is alleged the police officer returned from work in the evening and ordered his wife to open the house. After entering the house, the police constable approached his wife on the bed and forcefully opened her legs, inserted his two fingers in the woman's private parts,"said Langa.

"He said to the women, look at what comes of your private parts, it means you slept with another men while I was at work. The officer assaulted his wife and stabbed her several times on the breast and arms," Langa said.

IPID is investigating a case of rape, assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and attempted murder.
