Medics around the country have been asked to add record details of patients “affected by the trauma of the protest action and campaigning” during Friday’s #FeeMustFall protest. A group calling itself #Medics4FMF (Medics for Fees Must Fall) issued a statement saying: “As health care practitioners and students‚ people working in the health field and professionals working with health issues‚ we stand in solidarity with our fellow students as they protest for their right to an affordable education.“Today‚ they lead us. Their struggle‚ is our struggle.”#Medics4FMF said it would be “assisting with medical care at (Friday’s) protests in Gauteng and Cape Town” and appealed to “practitioners who can offer health care services around protest related health incidents to add their details to our database”.#Medics4FMF also urged medics who treat patients affected by protest action to “add the patient’s details (confidentially) to our database at feesmustfall.stats@gmail.com by sending a simple email description”.“Globally we find that healthcare‚ like education‚ is being commodified. We acknowledge the strain placed on the state due to these global pressures but we hold basic rights like education and health in the highest regard‚” the group said.#medics4FMF need supplies #FeesMustFall#RhodesMustFallpic.twitter.com/hnvFoJ0J4T— leanne brady (@BradyLeanne) October 23, 2015async@ANCYL_Wits@WitsSRC@WitsPYA#Medics4FMF will be providing medical assistance.Health for Education statement here : https://t.co/wbr2Cak1im— ayesha jacub (@AyeshaJacub) October 22, 2015async..
